veterans card holders shopping in NAAFI germany

Postby lesforeman021 » Sun Jul 25, 2010 6:11 pm

just received a letter from NAAFI today stating what we can and cant buy. too much to put on here but to say im pissed off is an understatement. basically what we are allowed to purchase is on the spot consumables x 5 of, these include the following.......

pot noodle type items
drink not squash or alchohol
crisps
ready prepared pies pasties etc
paper or magazine
sandwich
fresh fruit
salads and dips
greeting cards

but only 5 of the above can be bought at any one time

if you want to buy more then you have to register with the german customs who will issue you with a pink card (which is white) form 0127 tax card. you then can buy more than your 5 items however the NAAFI will issue you a shopping card which they will fill in aswell as your pink card. you then have 5 days of the next month to go to the german tax customs office and pay the tax on whatever you have purchased.

however in fallingbostel where i live and work german, dutch, french, belgium and other military personnel can shop in the NAAFI complex and purchase as many items as they wish. i served 22 years in the army and now get treated as a leper. pissed off with it i have more to write but will save that for another time

let me know your thoughts please and any ideas as to what we veterans can do to buy some beans , sausages , brown sauce and british white bread etc without gettin hassle from NAAFI STAFF and customs (british)

Les, you are spot on! By the way, Marmite can be bought at Karstadt in Hannover, Crisps from Jacques Wein Depot in Celle and try Lidl for marmalade, baked beans, shortbread, and a cheaper brand of crisps. All made by a firm known as Hatherwoods. Sometimes ALDI do a good deal as well. Booze and fags are not healthy for us so tell the NAAFI exactly what to do!

yours aye
